Jane Margaret Jones was born on 18 February 1923 at Berkeley, CA.. She was the daughter of Robert Parry Jones and Winnifred "Winnie" Phillips.
(Comment:
As a young girl she lost her father a successful carpenter to tuberculosis. Jane’s mother became a bridal seamstress raising her through the Great Depression with some support from Jane’s aunt and uncle with whom they shared a house. From these humble beginnings she excelled throughout her schooling, especially in Mathematics. She received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Art from the University of California, Berkeley in 1944. She became a high school math teacher and then married Howard Hickman, Jr.. Howard’s engineering career meant moving every 2-3 years across and between continents within widely different cultural norms. She grew in the experiences brought by living in many cultures, always connecting with neighbors, women’s groups, scouts and the local church. After her children were raised, she went back to teaching high school math.

Growing up with car camping trips to Yosemite and the Russian River opened the door for her love of nature. She and Howard and long-time friends built a still in-use cabin in a high-mountain valley by Wrights Lake. She had a friendliness that found her surrounded by a small group of ardently-supportive friends throughout her lifetime. She was a talented hostess, organizing dinners and holiday parties in whatever neighborhood or apartment she lived. She was very talented artistically. One of the fabrics she created in a weaving class while in college even brought her a job offer to design fabric in New York. And when she took an Ikebana floral arranging class in Japan, her teacher selected her to get a teaching certificate, which was a great honor. She had a great sense of humor, especially poignant during times of embarrassment or during the many foibles of life.) She married Howard Dewey Hickman Jr., son of Howard Dewey Hickman and Aster Isabell Moore, on 27 July 1947 at Berkeley, CA.. She died on 19 July 2022 at Fairfield, Solano Co, CA., at age 99.
(Comment: She remembered her childhood in an interview in 1987.)

Jesse A. Hickman1,2,3

M, b. 1828, d. 12 June 1885
Jesse Hickman
Jesse A. Hickman was born in 1828 at Greene Co, PA.. He was the son of Samuel Hickman and Elizabeth (---). He married Charlotte Waychoff, daughter of Jacob Waychoff Jr. and Nancy Bonar, circa 1848 at Greene Co, PA.. He was listed in the Draft list of Richill Twp, Greene Co, PA. between May 1863 and June 1863. He married Caroline Renner, daughter of Elisha T. Renner and Jane Gump, in 1864. He died on 12 June 1885 at Salem, Dent Co, MO.. Jesse married twice and fathered a total of thirteen children, the last when he was 54 years old. Jesse's first wife was Charlotte Waychoff, daughter of Jacob Waychoff, Jr. and Nancy Bonar. Charlotte was a direct descendant of Peter Wyckoff, who migrated from Holland to New Netherlands (now New York) in 1636. His house, now the Wyckoff House and Museum in Brooklyn, is the oldest house still standing in New York.
Jesse was a carpenter and joiner by trade. His known works included building railroad trestles, framing churches, and the fine woodworking inside a Courthouse. He was quite a strong willed character, weighing close to 300 pounds. Townsfolk lovingly called him "Uncle Jesse." It has been said that between work projects, he would go into town and drink heavily for days. The court records show that he was involved in several lawsuits in Greene County, and allegedly squandered the money of this first wife's estate.
Just east of Waynesburg, PA, Jesse purchased land from Elmore Phillips and advertised town lots for sale in the local newspaper, in December 1850. In the 1850's, Jesse and Charlotte lived on the farm of Jesse's father, on the border of Whiteley and Jefferson Townships, Greene County, where their six children were born.
In 1860, after the settlement of Charlotte's father's estate, Jesse and Charlotte moved and bought 51 acres property in Richhill Township, Greene County. They sold the land in 1863 when Charlotte became ill, probably of tuberculosis. Charlotte died on August 3, 1863.
In 1864, Jesse married Caroline Renner, who was the daughter of his first cousin, Elisha Renner. Caroline was born Oct. 28, 1845, remarried John Christopher after Jesse's death and died Nov. 12, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri.
After his marriage to Caroline, Jesse and his large family moved to Maryland, Mannington WV, Salem MO,Texas, Illinois, Gainesville TX, and back to Salem Missouri, probably in search of carpentry work. In 1869, he built the house on Lot 24, #4 Monroe St., Mannington,WV. In 1870 Salem, MO, he built the stair railings and woodwork inside the Dent County Courthouse, which can still be seen today.
After building the Presbyterian Church in Salem, 1881, Jesse was elected Justice of the Peace of Spring Township, Dent County in 1882. He resigned in 1884, probably due to ill health, as he died in Salem, on June 12, 1885, after "a long and painful attack." There is no record of his burial, but he is probably buried in the same Potter's Field of the Cedar Grove Cemetery, where his son was buried three years earlier.

SYNOPSIS of the Life of PETER LIVENGOOD SR (c. 1733-1814)
by Pat (Levengood) Brucer

Among the arrivals in Philadelphia August 28, 1750 aboard the "Phoenix" were Hans Jacob Liebengut and family: wife Anna Margaretha, sons Peter and Hans Jacob Jr, daughters Magdalena and Barbara, and Magdalena's husband George Shep/Schnep.

They settled in Barks Co and were members of the Lutheran Church of Colebrookdale Parish, which included Hill Church and the New Hanover Church at Falkners Swamp in Montgomery Co. Peter and Eva Linderman were married before Sunday, April 14, 1754, when they took communion at Hill Church. On May 18, 1755, Margaretha was listed in the church book as the widow of Hans Jacob Sr. It's believed she died before or soon after December 14 that year, as she was not a baptismal sponsor of Peter's first child (or subsequent babies) as would be expected. Peter paid taxes 1758-67 in Colebrookdale Twp; he was a founder at Colebrookdale Furnace, just south of Boyertown.

About 1768 Peter and brother Jacob moved to Frederick Co, VA, and lived near Isaac Zane's Iron Works on Cedar Creek, Marlboro, where cannon and ammunition were produced for the Continental Army.. Son George was born there in 1775. In March 1776, Peter Jr enlisted in the 8th VA Regiment and served until his escape from the British in June 1780, after the defeat at Charleston. On the 1782 VA state census, Peter Sr and Jacob were both listed with their families, in Frederick Co, near Marleboro.

In 1783/84 Peter Sr joined Peter Jr in SW Pennsylvania. The younger Peter had settled on Pursley Creek and was listed on the 1781 Supply Tax with 100 acres, 2 horses & 3 cows, for a 74 pound property evaluation. Both were taxed in 1784 in Washington Co, Cumberland Twp. In 1786 Peter Sr was warranted a 200 acre tract, "Peter's Purchase" on a branch of Muddy Creek. Brother Jacob's 1789 warrant was for "Green Bush" on Frosty Run, a branch of Big Whiteley Creek in Greene Twp, about 2 miles south of Peter Sr.

Peter's wife Eva was dead before March 1808 when he made his will, in which he names all eight children: Elizabeth (Mathias) Halfhill; Magdalena (Robert ) Hickman; Peter Jr (m: Mary Provator Sellars); Catherine (John) Smith; Maria Margaretha (James) Waits; Barbara (John) Lemley; Sarah (Jacob Jr.) Franks and George. Peter died at about 80 on January 6, 1814 in Whiteley Twp at the home of daughter Barbara and John Lemley, who had taken care of him during his final illness. He was buried beside Eva, and early records indicate well-tended graves--but do not give the location.
