Daniel Estle1,2,3,4

M, b. circa 1750?, d. December 1821
Daniel Estle was born circa 1750? At NJ. ? He married Catherine (---). He died in December 1821 at Greene Co, PA..

Daniel Estle was in present day Greene County by the year 1782, when he was listed in Capt. James Archer's Militia Co. He appears in the 1783 tax list. In 1785 Daniel obtained a warrant for the land "Bowling Green," which he then patented in 1787. In 1788, Daniel's son Silas Estell obtained a warrant for the adjacent land "Berwick." In 1802, Silas sold the land to his father Daniel, who then patented it in 1805.
Daniel Estle lived the rest of his life as a farmer on Muddy Creek, Greene Co., and probably died there in 1821, as his will was filed on Christmas Day 1821. His 1816 will and estate papers provide much information about his descendants.
Daniel's ancestry is unknown. He was probably the Daniel Estell, who signed a Fidelity Oath in Washington Co, MD. in 1778, as he migrated west. He is most probably a descendant of the Estells who lived in New Jersey in the late 1600's and early 1700's, as "Daniel" was a common family name. Other researchers have stated that he was a son of Daniel Estell and Hannah Fort, but I have not found proof.
There were at least two other Estells in early southwest PA. Per August 1791 Washington Co. PA Orphan Court record, Levi and Rhoda Estell (both over 14 years) were children of a Levi Estell deceased. Thus, this Levi would be the same generation as Daniel. A Levi Estell (Levi Jr.?) made a purchase in Daniel's 1822 Estate Sale. A Thomas Estell appears in a Sept. 1777 Yohogania Co. Court record. A Thomas Estell appears in all the 1785-1802 Franklin Twp, Fayette Co, PA. Tax lists and the 1786 and 1800 Septennial Franklin Twp. lists. He has one cabin and 70 acres listed in the 1798 Franklin Twp, Fayette Co, PA. direct tax list. In 1787, he obtained a warrant for the land "Waltonbasset" in Franklin Twp, Fayette Co. In 1785 a Daniel Estell is listed under the "single freeman" of Franklin Twp.

Johannes Theodorus Polhemus

M, b. 1598, d. 9 June 1676
Johannes Theodorus Polhemus was born in 1598 at Boikirchen, Bavarian Palatein. He was the son of Johnn Theodores Polhenius and Elizabeth Leisler. He married an unknown person at Netherlands. He married Catherine Van Werven, daughter of Daniel Van Der Werven and Lammertje (---), circa 1643 at Brazil. He died on 9 June 1676 at Flatbush, Long Island, NY.. Dominie Johannes Theodores Polhemius was a student of Divinity at Heidelberg University in 1620. He migrated to Holland, where he led a church but was asked to leave. In 1637, he was part of the Dutch migration to Brazil, taking over the colony from the Portuguese. He was the minister to the garrison on the island of Itamarca. In 1654, the Portuguese revolted and forced the Dutch to leave. When the Dutch fled on eighteen ships back to Holland, Dominie Polhemius was a different ship than his wife and children. His ship was taken over by pirates. They were later rescued by the French ship, "Le Charles" and set ashore in the Dutch settlement in New York. The Dutch requested that he stay there and lead their church. He stayed and his wife and children later rejoined him two years later. (Source: NY Gen. & Bio.
