He married Hattie Maud Ash, daughter of Joel Brown Ash and Rose Alpha Allen. He was a machinist at the salt plant in 1920 at Hutchinson, Reno Co, KS.. He transferred to Newark, CA, by the Morton Salt Company in 1925.¹⁵ He married Mabel Idella Poorbaugh on 22 January 1939 at Newark, Alameda Co, CA..^16,17 He worked for Morton Salt Company in 1942 at Newark, CA..¹² He died on 25 June 1956 at Eden Hospital, Newark, Alameda Co, CA., at age 68.      Joel Brown Ash was born on 18 February 1858 at Wythe Twp, Hancock Co, IL.. He was the son of William Jackson Ash and Eliza Ann Culpepper.
