My dear (shall I say cousin)?
It is nice of you to send me a letter enquiring of our ancestry. I am sorry that I can say but little your uncle Charley has already given you. He probably knew more than I know, however I will tell you what my father [Charles Treadaway 1863-1932] and Aunt Mat Ward [Martha Selina Ward 1856-1945] and your grandmother [Nancy Louise Cullum 1850-1942] told me. There were 3 brothers of the Treadaways moved from N.Carolina to Ga. They lived there 3 years and Uncle Tom T. [Thomas Neason Treadaway 1846-1897] and Aunt Nan [in pencil: Grandma Cullum [Nancy Louise Cullum 1850-1943]] were born there. They left for Texas and about Little Rock Ark they separated one going on to Texas, Two of them decided to go to Mo. They camped at Choctow Crek and a Mr. Hunter insisted they look around there for there was lots good land down the Creek (Choctaw) my grandfather [Charles L. Treadaway 1821-1864] and your mother decided to investigate and decided not to go on to Mo. So he settled on Cove Creek (on creek you was born on [in pencil not me but Mae Hazel Gray]) and lived there ‘tlll he died in 1864. My father [Charles D. Treadway 1863-1937] was only 6 wk old when his father died. He died of pneumonia. After Father, he grew up he bought the Jasper Cullum place and lived there when he and mother (Molly Stobaugh) were married. He sold to uncle Jasper in 1n 1887. They were 13 children, my father being the youngest. He was born 1864 and died 1937.
I wish I could tell you more. I so well remember your mother [Rebecca Louise Anderson 1883-1975 and all her brothers and sisters. [in pencil “s” is crossed off] We lived neighbors to your father. He was a good man. I courted your Unt Netty. She was a sweet girl.
I shall write your mother and try to have her come visit us. We would be so good to you. You would want to come again. May God bless you and your family.
I am 9 days older then your Uncle Ben [Benjamin Harrison Cullum 1891-1967]. I was born 5-22-1891.
Lots of Love
J (Mat) Treadaway
